HIGHTS believes that involving youth in service projects helps them care about others and builds a stronger community. We utilize the energy and passion of youth to help many local organizations reach their service goals, and plant the seeds of service in a young person’s life.
Current Projects:
-The Community Garden is a local organic garden where all produce is donated to the Community Table, a local restaurant that serves people in need of food. HIGHTS has maintained a plot at the community garden for 4 years.
-Trash pickup on four major roads in Jackson and Haywood Counties.
- Water cleanup projects on several local waterways including, Tuckaseegee River, Pigeon River, Nantahala River, Cliffside Lake, Bear Lake, Balsam Lake, Wolf Lake, and Glenville Lake.
- Wheelchair ramp building with the Department of Ageing.
- Firewood delivery projects with Department of Ageing
- School cleanup and landscape projects designed to clean and improve several public schools in Jackson and Haywood Counties.
-Visitation to area nursing homes to socialize with patients and do any work projects needed.
-Trail cleanup and ongoing maintenance on a trail in the Blue Ridge Parkway.
-Support many local nonprofit agencies projects and activities.
