Maximus is a 7-year-old English Golden Retriever. He weighs approximately 100 lbs. and loves spending time with people of all ages. Maximus is very intelligent, intuitive, and social. He loves to be pet and especially loves food. Maximus and his handler, Dr. Roth, see clients in Jackson County but make trips to Haywood, Macon, and Graham counties whenever they are needed. 

Dr. Nathan Roth is a licensed psychologist in North Carolina and associate professor at Western Carolina University. Dr. Roth earned his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Western Carolina University in 2005 and his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 2009. He specializes in evidence-based treatment for youth including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focus cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), the unified protocol for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders (UP), and animal assisted therapy (AAT). Dr. Roth and his team oversee HIGHTS' animal assisted intervention (AAI) program incorporating therapy dogs into our school and community-based services.
